What 10 years of growth has taught our Delivery Manager, Kelly?

In sales, especially in a fast-paced environment like ours, you have to wear many hats. Problem solver, motivator, coach, and above all, a standard setter. Over the last 10 years at VST Venues, leading our outbound calling teams, I’ve learnt that your team becomes a reflection of your leadership. You set the tone, and they carry it forward.

Here are a few principles that have shaped our success, and continue to guide me everyday:

  1. You Have to be ‘Sold’ Before You Can Lead

Before you can inspire belief in others, you have to be fully aligned with your company’s mission and your clients’ goals. As a leader, your buy-in is the foundation. If you’re not convinced, your team never will be. When we understand and champion what we’re working towards, it shows in everything we deliver.

  1. Mindset is the Starting Point

A positive, focused mindset is the most powerful tool any team has. I make sure my team starts each day with the belief that what they do matters – because it does. When you genuinely believe success is possible, you’re already halfway there.

  1. Resilience Builds Consistency

Rejection is part of the job, but it doesn’t have to knock us back. I encourage my team to treat every ‘no’ as a learning opportunity. What could we have done differently? What can we take forward? That’s where real growth happens.

  1. Motivation Comes From Meaning

Incentives and rewards are great, and we use them to celebrate wins. But the strongest motivation comes from knowing the bigger picture. Every venue we secure is the starting point of a fundraising journey. Our team knows they’re enabling life-changing work for charities, and that’s more powerful than any target.

Being Human Is the Key to Strong Leadership

If there’s one thing I’ve truly come to value, it’s this: be human. The best teams are built on trust, openness, and shared purpose. I don’t always have all the answers, and I’m honest about that. What matters is showing up with integrity, building relationships, and following through on what you promise.

Mindset, in this context, isn’t about constant cheerleading or blind optimism. It’s about constructive realism. Seeing challenges clearly, believing in your ability to make an impact, and having the drive to shape better outcomes.

A positive and realistic mindset means recognising challenges, owning them and taking the steps to turn them into wins. If you are considering outsourcing venue booking, our team delivers with care, attention to detail and reliability, giving you more time to focus on running outstanding campaigns.

Kelly’s Takeaway

If you’re considering whether to manage venue booking in-house or outsource it – know this: with the right mindset and the right partner, it doesn’t have to be hard. We’ve built our service around quality, trust, and results. And we’re here to take the pressure off, so you can focus on what matters most, delivering exceptional campaigns.
